SMEs at the heart of a new EU-Africa cooperation

Malta Business and its partner Euromed International Trade could not fail to attend the “EU-Africa SME Summit 2021”, which was held on October 21 and 22 on the initiative of CONFAPI, Del Mittelstand, CEA.PME, Pan African Chamber of Commerce and Industry, INSME, and with the support of the European Union and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

With a program enlivened by leading international political and economic figures, the event offered a valuable opportunity for European and African businessmen to meet, encouraged to cooperate and co-invest, build alliances, joint ventures and partnerships through appropriate support and monitoring structures, and specific mechanisms aimed at verifying the efficacy and coherence of their initiatives.

At last, we are once again looking to the Mediterranean with full conviction, thanks to a renewed awareness of the importance of the African context, including among some of the most important trade associations in Europe, and among EU and national institutions. An awareness that for years has animated the work and commitment of the group that includes the teams of consultants from Malta Business and Euromed International Trade, as well as the “Imprese del Sud” Think Tank and the Institute for Advanced Training MACTT.

Through a series of forums and round tables broadcast live from Rome and Dakar (Senegal), which saw the participation of some of the most important players in the African and Mediterranean political and business context, the necessary attention was paid to the ambitious growth plans that are affecting Africa, with a long series of activities geared towards stimulating the entrepreneurial spirit of its populations, creating jobs especially for its young people, creating inclusive growth and generating social and political stability.

This is the starting point for EU-Africa economic cooperation that focuses on small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) as the backbone of many economies in Europe, especially in Germany and Italy, as well as in Africa. This cooperation is based on entrepreneurship, professional training and investment, three key elements that can lay the foundations for shared-value business and to achieve the important goals of sustainable development.
